Job Description

Java Developer HR

Develop and optimize Jumbos HR landscape, building robust, scalable solutions for our 90K+ employees.

Working with and for a smile

Jumbos ambition is to be the most customer-oriented company. We want to surprise customers and exceed expectations, so they enjoy shopping with us. With over 700 stores in the Netherlands and Belgium, the option to have groceries delivered to their homes via jumbo.com, our own distribution centers, and office colleagues, we work together every day to achieve this ambition. We strive to win the customer together at Jumbo.

As a Back-End Developer, you make a significant contribution to Jumbo by further developing and optimizing our technical HR landscape. This landscape is servicing our employee base (90K+). The teams focus is on building and maintaining a middleware layer, which includes various interfaces between source and target applications. Due to the size and complexity of our HR landscape, you are continuously challenged in this role to build robust and scalable back-end solutions.

Lets get started! This is what youll do

As a Back-End Developer, you play an important role in further evolving and developing our HR landscape, with a variety of different technologies and integrations connecting to our partners and applications.

  • You write maintainable and clean Java code, continuously tested and deployed through pipelines to our Kubernetes environments;
  • You gather functional and technical requirements and translate them into solution designs;
  • You adopt a consultant mindset, pro-actively contributing to identifying improvement opportunities for our IT products and processes;
  • You collaborate closely with business and stakeholders;
    You work with multiple Cloud technologies;
  • You are part of one of our Agile development teams, working according Scrum principles;
  • You try to coach team members where possible: review each others code and learn from each other;
  • You build it, you run it, you own it. As a Back-End Developer, you are also responsible for running, maintaining, and supporting the products in your teams portfolio.

Your workday as a back-end developer at Jumbo:

  • 09:00-09:15: Daily stand-up where each team member gives a brief update on their progress and any impediments
  • 10:30-11:30: Design session with the Product Owner and IT Consultant where you jointly discuss the design of a new intended feature
  • 12:00-12:45: Team lunch in our Food Café, a pleasant environment to catch-up with your colleagues and enjoy a fresh meal
  • 14:00-15:30: Retrospective session where you reflect on the current sprint with the team and product owner by sharing experiences and ensuring continuous improvement
  • 16:00-17:00: Refinement session with one of our target system partners to verify and validate upcoming technical changes

Together we are Jumbo: Here you will work

Your agile team consists of solutions engineers (back-end developers), consultant, tester, scrum master, and product owner.

Typically you

At Jumbo, we are looking for go-getters, people with good ideas and the courage to work together on them. We care for each other: our customers, colleagues, and the world around us, and we want to do a little better every day. All our (future) colleagues bring a healthy dose of Jumbo DNA with them, and so do you!

We are looking for Java developers with a passion for their profession, who value codes quality and the products they create. You enjoy working in an Agile-based team. You do not wait for things to happen, you make things happen. You have a passion for software development in the widest sense and love sharing it with your colleagues. In your role as a Back-End Developer, you have:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience as a Java developer, preferably in a food retail environment;
  • You care about the code you write and you promote best practices and principles for software development within the team and the department;
  • Experience with Java, Clouds (Azure and/or AWS), GIT, test frameworks, pipelines, automation;
  • Experience with DevOps tools such as GIT, Maven, and Azure DevOps;
  • The code you write is shipped with tests. TDD is not a must, but encouraged;
  • Experience with creating and managing issues in Atlassian Jira;
    Continuous delivery is not a mystery to you;
  • In Git we trust!

What do you get from us?

At Jumbo, you will find a working environment with warmth, fun, and attention to each other, where you have plenty of room to contribute to our ambition to become the most customer-oriented company. And just as you are there for our customers, we are there for you. You can count on:

  • A gross salary between 4.100 - 5.300 per month (based on 40 hours).
  • An annual bonus of max 5% of your annual salary, based on organizational goals.
  • 30 days of paid holiday (with the opportunity to buy or sell days of paid holiday) and 8% holiday allowance. You build up a pension through participation in the Pension Fund for the Food Industry.
  • An allowance for your travel expenses ( 0.21 cents per kilometer with a maximum of 35 kilometers one way). We like to work together in the office, but you can also work partly from home.
  • Room for entrepreneurship, growth and development. Not only in your job but also through our Jumbo Academy, online training through GoodHabitz and with a training budget.
  • Daily fresh lunch in our Foodcafé, good coffee and fresh fruit. You can sport daily at our own Jumbo Gym for a small fee.
  • Colleague discounts such as 10% off your groceries (up to 325 per year), participation in our collective health insurance or discounts through Beneftits at Work.
